Recently, I attended an Appalachian event called "Football 101". Football 101 is put on by the University Bookstore, to get everyone super excited for the upcoming football season! Not to mention, it's catered completely to women! The only men there are the football coaches and administrative staff, along with a few star football players!
Not a bad deal right?
This particular event is held once a year, and 125 football-loving ladies are able to attend. For just $30/person, you're provided a fabulous dinner from Outback Steakhouse, a beer and wine tasting, three different breakout sessions with the football staff and a gift bag of surprises just for going.
When my friend Tara asked me if I was interested, I couldn't say yes fast enough!

My next question, what do I wear? I spoke to someone who had been to Football 101 in years past, and found out that everyone wears black and gold (Appalachian's colors,) and dresses business casual. I decided on a silky black maxi skirt, white tank and gold bauble necklace.
Though I loved my outfit, next year, I'll definitely wear something that's a little easier to move around in. It was difficult learning how to play football in a maxi skirt!
The event was held in our brand new athletic center, which was so nice! Tara and I arrived right at five, got our name tags, and enjoyed some wine and shopping while everyone else arrived.
The tables were beautifully decorated with black and gold decor and Appalachian footballs in the center. These footballs ended up being door prizes for a few lucky guests to take home!
After the opening remarks and an introduction of all the coaches, we enjoyed a filet, Caesar salad, green beans and delicious carrot cake. That, along with two glasses of wine, was well worth the $30 I paid for my ticket.
After dinner, and a little perusing of the newest Appalachian gear that was for sale, we headed to our first session. Attendees were split into black, white and gold groups, which corresponded with your schedule for the night.
In our first rotation, Tara and I headed down to the indoor football field to learn how to throw/receive passes. Here I am practicing passing to Tara!

Next, we headed up to the Chancellor's Suite, to learn about some of the defensive positions.
I loved hearing the passion in each coaches voice, as they talked about the players they coach. Afterward, we made our way downstairs to a small theater, to learn how the offensive positions call plays and work together to make the Appalachian "magic" happen!
All of the coaches were so nice!

The night ended with everyone circling up in the locker room, and a pep talk from the head coach. This wasn't just any locker room though! Think all-rock walls, carpeted floors, and wooden cubbies personalized for each of our amazing players. I felt like I was walking into the Hall of Fame!
The whole event lasted from 5-9pm, and was worth every penny. We had SO much fun at Football 101, and I will definitely be back again next year! I heard through the grapevine, that ASU also has a Basketball 101, so I'm looking forward to attending that this fall!
Have you ever been to an event like this Football 101?
Love what you're reading?
As always, Have a Sweet Day!

Oh how fun! I bet it was neat to get a backstage type of look at what goes on that fans usually don't see. Do you work for the college?
That sounds like so much fun!! Too bad the school I work for doesn't have a football team :(
That looks like it was so much fun! I've heard the new athletic facility is really nice! I wish UNC would do something like this for the staff!
