This past week was the most active I've been in a long time! Though I'm still recovering from all the fun events, participating in each one was completely worth it!
On Monday, I worked out for an hour with my personal trainer. After missing training for a full week, this kicked my butt! I was sore for the next three days!
On Tuesday, I attended a Zumba class during my lunch break and made time to run 4.5 miles after work! Tuesday was also the day I registered for the Glass Slipper Challenge in Disney World, so that gave me and extra push to run that evening!
On Wednesday, (still super sore from training) my friend Danielle and I walked 3 miles at the Greenway in Boone.
On Thursday, I went to work just like an other normal day, and on a whim, decided to run the Walk, Don't Work 5K. This race benefits the American Cancer Society, and gives Appalachian employees an opportunity to get out during work time and be active.
Luckily, there were a few other people from my office participating, so when they left, I jumped in too! I had my exercise clothes with me for Zumba that day, so it worked out perfectly!

I got there, got my bib & was ready to go!
Though I didn't have much time to prepare, I knew this would be the perfect warm-up for my 7-miler on Saturday.
I placed 4th of all the women participating, and 9th of 76 total participants in the race! My 5K time was 26:21, making it my fastest 5K yet!
On Saturday, my Mom and I got up bright and early, so I could run The Cub, a 7-mile (mostly uphill) race through Valle Crucis. The Cub is the first of three races that make up the High Country Triple Crown.
With my Mom's assistance, I picked out my race outfit the night before...
complete with my signature bow!
That morning, we arrived at 7AM, so I would have time to stretch and get ready.
At 8 o'clock, the gun fired and we were off on our uphill trek through beautiful Valle Crucis. I completely surprised myself and finished my first mile in 8:15. Normally, I run a 9:30 mile, so this was a huge improvement!
I ran straight through the finish and hugged my Mom. I was so happy to have survived! It was a humbling experience to say the least!
I conquered The Cub!
It felt so good to sit down after I was done!

This was definitely the most serious of the races I've run so far. These participants were in it for speed as opposed to just having a good time.
As I got further along, the inclines became steeper and steeper. When the route description said "hills," I think it meant mountains! When I got to mile 4, I didn't know if I was going to be able to finish. The terrain was treacherous!
Check out the topographical map for yourself!
I kept picturing my Mom waiting for me at the finish, and I knew I'd come way too far to stop then. I pushed as hard as I could, and crossed the finish line at 1:05:48, just 7 minutes slower than my 10K time, and I gained an extra mile!!!

Even though I didn't win a medal, I did bring home this super cool glass!
As soon as I got home (and had a nap,) I was already looking for my next race! Runner's high at its finest! I don't know if it'll happen, but I would love to run a half-marathon before I do the Princess Half in Disney in February, just to make sure I can do it!
The two I'm thinking about:
The second race in the Triple Crown series that goes from Boone to Blowing Rock, NC.
or
After our trip earlier this month, I would love to go back to the OBX, and what a perfect place to run my first half! I also have a friend that just signed up for the full marathon that weekend, so it would be great to go and support each other! I'm so proud of you, Aimee!
Either way, I'm crossing my fingers that there will be a half in my near future!
I'm getting there, one mile at a time!

That's a lot of activity! I really need to get better about going to the gym but I have yet to find one I like. I keep debating about joining UNC's gym again but I have no idea, teach me your ways!
