One year ago today, I sat in the dim light of my Boone, North Carolina apartment, nervous, excited, scared and so ready for a change. I'd been thinking about starting a blog for months, even years, but it all came together on September 6th, 2011. After calling my best friend Sharyn on the phone (a blogger herself), I finally had the advice and inspiration that I needed. I pondered the name of my blog for hours, writing them all down on a piece of notebook paper, and saying them in my head. Not only did I want a name that described me and my personality perfectly, but something that when someone stumbled across my blog, they felt welcome and at home. I had no idea what I was doing or how it would turn out, but I was ready to leap and not know where I might land.
That night, I decided on "Sweet Like a Song," after the adorable adage my Mother began telling me as an elementary school student. Her advice was to tell others that my name was "Melody like a song," not to be confused with a collection of other "M" names in my classes. When everyone in college took to this little saying, I knew it had potential. I knew it was something that I wanted to hold onto, and I did.
One year later, I am no longer in college, no longer going to date functions in my sorority, no longer in a relationship, and almost 22 years old, but Sweet Like a Song is still the same. It is a wonderful place that I can come to 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to tell others about things going on in my life, to say exactly what I think and hold nothing back....to share my story.
Though I write this little blog as a creative outlet for myself, it would be nothing without its wonderful readers. I continue to be amazed at the people that contact me almost daily, saying that they read my blog and love to hear about what I'm doing, or that it made them want to create a blog themselves. I love hearing that reading Sweet Like a Song inspired them to share their thoughts, just like someone else's blog did for me. Thank you for reading my posts, commenting, and simply being here. I am so thankful to have you, and you continue to make my day.
Sweet Like a Song is truly a home away from home.
In honor of my One Year Blogoversary (as we call it in the blog world), I thought I would share with you a couple of my most favorite posts over the past year, as well as my very first blog post that you can read here.
