A Puppy Shopping Trip!

On Wednesday of this week, I had the entire day off & saw this as the perfect opportunity to make a puppy supply run! I've been making all types of lists lately, one of them consisting of must-have items for when the puppy arrives at our house. All I needed to do was find a good time to go, and Wednesday happened to be it!

I left around lunch ready to take PetSmart by storm, little did I know my plan would change a little bit. I walked in and took a lap around the store looking for someone that worked there to help me. That someone was nowhere to be found! I was about to make some big purchases and I needed someone to answer all my questions. I was overwhelmed and just didn't feel right. About that time, my Mom's best friend Tammy walked in the store's door. I told her my situation, and she suggested that I try another pet store nearby called Pet Supplies Plus. Thank goodness for Tammy!

Yall, this place was the answer to my prayers!

I scooted on over to PSP and was greeted by a nice man who worked there. I told him my situation, that I was getting a new puppy and that I needed a lot of help. This sweet man, Michael (we're on a first-name basis now haha) walked with me up and down every aisle in the store. He was amazing! He gave me advice, answered every question, and tried his best to tell me about products that would be great for Paisley, as well as sticking to my budget. Ah-maz-ing!

I almost asked him to take a picture with me, but I know I'll be shopping there from now on, so I'll get it next time! Thanks Michael!

Paisley's Loot:

Her very own crate:

Her new bed!
Our cat Booey even had fun trying it out!

Her toys and food accessories:

Paisley's food:

All I've got to say is, Miss Paisley is a lucky dog!
She even has a personalized box for her things at our house!

Also, I'm guest posting for Lauren at The Merry Mrs. Mobley while she's vacationing to the beach! Stop by her fabulous blog today & find out my five favorite activities to do while I'm at the beach!

My Life as of Late!

Happy Hump Day! We're halfway through this week and I am so happy to have a day off from both of my jobs today! Not that I don't miss being there, it's just nice to get some things done today!

It seems like this month has gone by so fast! Lately I've been getting ready for the beach, Jake's birthday and for Miss Paisley to arrive! Everything coming together has made for a pretty crazy couple of days!

If you haven't heard yet, on Monday morning, I finally talked to the Goldendoodle breeder and found out that I would be getting the smaller puppy that I mentioned in this post! I am still beyond excited and I can't believe it's really happening. My family will be driving to Georgia to pick her up on Saturday, June 30th, ten days from now!!  With that in mind, I feel like I have so much to do! Today, I'm going on a mini puppy shopping spree at PetSmart! They better get ready!
All this is happening amongst our family vacation to Hilton Head on Saturday! We're packing up our beach chairs and sunscreen to enjoy 4 nights and 5 days of fun in the sun. My parents, my brother and his girlfriend Samantha are going down on Saturday morning, while Jake and I are leaving early Sunday morning since I have a wedding to work on Saturday night!
We were so excited to find out that Jake's 22nd birthday fell during our trip! On Tuesday, Jake & I will be traveling to Savannah, GA to visit his sister who lives there. I've only been there once and don't even remember the trip, so I am so excited to see Savannah from a native's perspective. Jake's gift is just about finished & I can't wait to share it with you next week!

On another exciting note, I'm almost done reading The Help, after about two weeks of working on it. I was looking at Twitter the other day, and saw where Ashley from Everyday AEM was selling her three 50 Shades of Grey books, which I have been dying to read! I tweeted her immediately & got all three books for $20 shipped! These will serve as my beach reading during our trip!

Father's Day Festivities!

I hope that you all had the most wonderful Father's Day yesterday, and had a great time honoring the fabulous men in your lives! My Dad had to work yesterday evening, but we had just enough time after church to have hot dogs and hamburgers for lunch and for him to open his gifts!

Daddy enjoying his hot dog
Mama ready for lunch
I have been so excited for my Dad to open his gifts for Father's Day! I've had one of them for over a month now, and I was itching to give it to him. My Dad is a huge Tarheel basketball fan. Seriously, I think he bleeds Carolina blue. At Appalachian, I was a receptionist in the office right across the hall from the men's and women's basketball coaches. It turns out, Jason Capel, the head men's basketball coach at ASU used to play for UNC Chapel Hill during his college years. My Dad always asked about Coach Capel, how he was doing, if I'd seen him... He is a huge fan! Before I graduated, I had the idea to get a basketball and have Coach Capel sign it. I mentioned the idea to him and he told me he would love to! Score!

The other part of my Dad's gift yesterday was something that he's just recently fallen in love with...Tervis Tumbler cups! Weird right? I had a few tumblers that I had brought home from different things at school, my Dad found them and now that's all he uses! I knew adding a few to his collection would be the perfect Father's Day gift.

The gifts were a hit!

 Daddy with his new tumblers!
Right after opening his autographed basketball!
 In awe!

Happy Monday Everyone!

New Items to be Excited About!

I hope you all are enjoying your Friday so far! I wanted to tell you about a few items that I'm excited about getting as of yesterday!

1. A Pedicure- I love having a nice pedicure, but it's something I've been avoiding recently to help save money for my puppy. My Mom received a gift certificate for a pedicure for Mother's Day and yesterday she decided to get it and treat me to one as well! Score! I'm loving my new pink & glittery toes! They will be perfect for our beach trip in just a few days!

2. A New Car Monogram- Two weeks ago, I went to pick out a new monogram for my car in this cute stationary store called Noteworthy. They had so many choices, but their amazing staff helped me through each step! It came in a few days ago, and I was finally able to take off the old one and put the new one on my car!

3. New Dog Sticker- There's another sticker that I've been wanting for months, but I'd been waiting until just the right time to order it. Yesterday seemed like the perfect time! I bought this cute decal off Amazon for under $10 with shipping included. I can't wait to have my puppy and put it on my car!

4. Jake's Gift- As I've mentioned a couple times, Jake's birthday is coming up later this month! One of his gifts arrived yesterday afternoon and looks great! I won't post what it is because he reads this most of the time! I'm so excited for him to open it though!

What have you been buying lately?
Have a happy Friday!

Summertime Essentials By Day & Night!

I've been throwing around the idea of doing a summer essentials post here on the blog, but as I waited to decide, more and more people had already done them. I did end up putting one together for you all today, but I decided to change it up a little bit!

Since I work at one place on Monday & Wednesday during the day and then at another place on Tuesday & Thursday at night, my summer essentials vary for certain days & times.

On Monday and Wednesday of each week, I drive into the downtown area for work at my internship. I almost always have these five items with me!

1. My Planner: I was given a brand new planner for graduation by my little Katy and I use this thing every day. Before that, I was using one of the large Lilly Pulitzer planners, but it just wasn't cutting it!

2. My Watch: If there's one thing that I've learned in the wedding business, it's that being on time is essential! Let me be completely honest, in this line of work, if you're on time, you're late! Jake gave me a Hello Kitty watch (my favorite) for our anniversary, and it has really come in handy this summer!

3. My Macbook: During the work day I spend my time building inspiration boards for clients, researching marking ideas & writing posts for the wedding blog, which you can see here! The most-recent post was about yours truly, so make sure to check it out!

4. Jack Rogers: These are the best shoes to match any outfit! I have them in 3 colors and they always look great. Now that they have the glitter and rhinestone option, I may have to give them a try!

5. My Lunch Box: My Mom has been so sweet and helps me to pack my lunch in the mornings when  I don't have time. I have a lunch bag from school, but she's been using her cute Very Bradley one, and  I'm not complaining!

On nights that I'm not working and I get to enjoy my time at home, my essentials are a little different!

1. J.CREW Chino Shorts: These are my favorite type of shorts for summer. I love that you can dress them up with a cute blouse, or stay casual with a t-shirt! I love throwing these on when my family is going out to dinner.

2. Summer Reading: Currently I'm reading The Help, but this changes almost weekly. My book is always nearby, whether I'm sitting on the couch or throwing it in my car. You never know when you'll have those few extra minutes.

3. Nike Tempo Shorts: A lot of times my Mom and I have been riding over to the local park and walking or running right before sunset. It's nice to throw on a pair of these shorts and be ready to go!

4. Puppy things: Since I don't have time to research dog things at work, I usually do this before bed. This includes, how-to videos on training or comparing product prices. Lately, I've spent a lot of time looking at dog crates!

5. My Family: I love nights when I'm able to go fishing with my Dad and Brother or run a few errands with my Mom. Sometimes it's nice just to be able to relax and spend time with the ones you love!

What do you think of my go-to summer essentials?

I'm On Puppy Alert!

Since early yesterday morning, I have been so excited to tell you all about a BIG change in my doggie situation! We just might have a Goldendoodle puppy headed our way very soon, like a few weeks soon, like I need to save up A LOT of money in a short amount of time soon!

Are you getting my drift?!

I questioned publishing this because I don't know absolutely, 100% yet if this dog is going to be mine, but I figured if this blog was going to document my life, I wanted to have this exciting/anxious experience recorded!

I'll start from the beginning:

The Situation:
I have been looking into getting a Goldendoodle puppy for months now. Since this past February, to be more specific. Many of you have read and listened to me month after month, and have been so supportive of all the high and low moments of this dog-searching experience. I thank you for that. The way the situation stood, I had found a breeder that I liked. She didn't have puppies now, but we were hoping for some in December.

The Present:
On Monday around noon, I got on Facebook and saw that a girl that I know from school had Goldendoodle puppies for sale, along with pictures of 5 male puppies! I didn't even know she had a Goldendoodle?! Insert Melody jumping around and freaking out! I immediately commented on the post saying I was interested and asking the price and what was available. She then sent me a message with general information about the dogs and how to get in touch with her mom, if I was interested. Even though they didn't have any females in the photos, I thought that I would still pursue it just to see. It turns out my friend's dog Boomer is the father of the litter!

Meet Boomer!
I contacted the girl's mother to inquire about the puppies and heard from her first thing yesterday morning. If you've read my tweets lately, you've been following along with all this! She informed me that the litter started with 9 puppies, 5 boys and 4 girls. They are the standard size F2b Doodles, by Goldendoodle standards. Boomer (English Goldendoodle) mated with a female (F1b Goldendoodle) named Mame!

Meet the parents!
I was ecstatic to find out that they actually had two females left, along with two males.

Meet a few of the boys!
There was another family that contacted her before me (that also wanted a female), so they will get to pick which one they want of the two, then if everything works out, the other female will be mine!

Meet the girls!
I think they are both beautiful! I can't wait to hear which one the other family picks!

As you can see from the picture, one of the girls is a little smaller than the other. We love this one! Since this is a standard Goldendoodle (which grow to be fairly large dogs), we are hoping for the smaller one, though we love them both!

I mailed my deposit for the dog this morning. They will be ready in a little less than a month.
This is real.

Thanks so much for being a part of this journey with me! If you don't like hearing about puppies, being a dog-mom and the like, I would turn back now. Haha.

Follow me on Twitter for updates & cross your fingers for me!

Terrific Summer Treats!

Each summer, without fail, it seems there are certain foods that I crave all the time! Some of these I have often, while others are only for special occasions. Just thinking about these summer treats has my mouth watering!

Cheese & Crackers
There's nothing that I enjoy more than good cheese and crackers! It's one of my favorite snacks all year long! The other night, my family and I had dinner at a restaurant nearby that served a cheese spread as an appetizer along with a dish of things to put the cheese on. It was so good and I've been craving it ever since!

Fruit Pizza

via
I love having a fruit pizza in the fridge during the summer! Around my house we use kiwi, strawberries, grapes, and pineapple. The spread is made from cream cheese, along with a few other ingredients and the base is sugar cookie dough. It's like a dessert and an appetizer at the same time!

Punch
There's nothing better than good punch at a family event. I don't mean Hawaiian Punch or fruit punch, I'm talking about the kind that you make for wedding or baby showers, that still has ice in it. YUM! We usually have it for Easter and Christmas and the flavor changes with the season. Sometimes, we get really lucky and my Mom will make it just because!

Banana Pudding
Vanilla pudding, bananas, Nilla Wafers and whipped cream. What could be better than these things combined into a dish? Yesterday, my Aunt made banana pudding and brought some over to our house to try. So good! I could have eaten the whole thing!

Chocolate Pretzel Sticks
I don't get these little treats very often, but whenever I go to Kilwin's, this is my must-have item! They usually come covered in milk, white or dark chocolate. The dark chocolate is my fave! I've also seen them with sprinkles and other toppings!

Do you have favorite summer foods?

What I'm Loving About June!

Though we're only eleven days into June, there are so many things that I'm already loving about this month!

1. There's still more than half of summer left!
Even though almost a month and a half of summer has already passed, there's still so many things I want to do! Thank goodness it's only June, and I still have a while left of summer!

2. Father's Day is less than a week away!
I am beyond excited for my Daddy to open his Father's Day gift this year! I think he's going to fall in love with his gift! The best part? My Mom, Brother & I only spent about $30 total!
One of my favorite pictures from our fishing trip last night!

3. It's Jake's birthday month!
Birthdays are a big deal  around my house, and this month I'm so excited to celebrate Jake's 22nd birthday! It's hard to believe he was just 20 when we met! Where does the time go? Last year, I was working on the day of Jake's actual birthday, but we celebrated a few days before. This year, we will be vacationing with my family in Hilton Head and visiting Jake's sister in Savannah, GA!
How perfect!

4. I get to work two weddings this month!
During my internship this summer, I've had the pleasure of working/attending two weddings so far. I can't believe how much I've already learned. I have a wedding the next two weekends as well, and I'm so excited to see how everything goes.

5. My family leaves for Hilton Head in 12 days!
For my family's vacation this year, we're heading to Hilton Head Island on June 23rd! We rented this cute cottage a short walk from the beach and I can't wait! I've been to HHI a few times before, and I enjoy the island more and more each time! I think this trip is going to be especially fun because Jake and my brother's girlfriend Samantha are coming along!
The whole gang at my graduation!

What are you looking forward to this month?

The First Edition of The Sunday Social!

On this Sunday morning, I'm getting ready to go to church and linking up with Ashley & Neely for the first of their Sunday Social posts!
Here's the first set of Sunday Social questions and then my answers!

How did you come up with your blog name?
The name Sweet Like a Song actually came from something that my mom told almost 15 years ago! Ever since I was little, people have had trouble saying, understanding and spelling my name correctly. Melody. Doesn't seem too difficult right? Wrong. I've gotten Melanie, Melondy, and even Natalie! In elementary school, my mom told me that when teachers or other kids asked my name, I should say that my name is Melody like a song. It wasn't until I got to college that I  really used this little saying. Anytime I met someone, and still to this day, I say my name is Melody like a song. This little line was a hit and it stuck! When I was creating my blog, I knew this cute little piece of me had to be part of it!

What is your favorite thing about blogging?
I love discovering new blogs & meeting new people! I love reading about interesting things that people do, eat, craft, etc. It's so much fun learning about a great place to go shop or an idea that I never thought of! I'm so much more knowledgeable in these departments since I started blogging!

What is one thing you have discovered because of blogging and now cant live without?
Ashley Brooke Designs products! If you haven't seen the beautiful work of ABDesigns, you need to! I love their creative illustrations and cute ideas on stationary, notepads, invitations, anything! I'm planning on having a custom illustration of my own made, as soon as my new doggie arrives! (That's another thing you'll read a lot about on my blog!) I'm a soon-to-be dog mom and I love to read, hear, and learn about pets!

Facebook or Twitter? and Why?
Twitter for sure! I love the quick blurbs of Twitter and how useful it is to find out what people are doing, without all the clutter of Facebook. It's also a great way to connect with your favorite companies and celebs!
You can follow me here!

If one celeb read your blog who would you want it to be?
I would love to have Oprah as a follower of my blog! She is so amazing and has done so much in her lifetime. She is also an inspiration to women everywhere!

What is something you want people to know about your blog?
Sweet Like a Song is no masterpiece, just the ramblings of someone trying to figure out which direction their life is taking them. If you don't mind hearing about dogs, dresses, desserts and everything in between, I'd love to have you follow me on this journey!
It'll be fun! I promise:)

Reunion with the Boyfriend!

This past Friday, I was finally able to see my boyfriend Jake after three long weeks! I know three weeks doesn't seem that long for long-distance couples, but I sure did miss him!

Usually when Jake and I visit, we try to switch off driving to each other's houses, just to make it easier on one another. Since he came to me for our one year anniversary over Easter, I went to see him this time! The driving doesn't bother me at all, just because I know he'll be there to greet me when I arrive!

That morning, I woke around 7:30am to start getting ready. Even though it was early, I was so excited to see Jake, it didn't even matter! I had picked out my outfit ahead of time and decided on a black blouse with ruffles (my favorite) and a pair of shorts. We weren't doing anything big that day, just relaxing and having fun, so I didn't want to dress up too much!

I got to his house around 11am and was greeted by this sweet face!
Harlee is one of my favorite things about visiting Jake's. She's the most precious dogs I've ever met and the reason for my Doodle obsession!

Then, I saw this smiling face!
He's my real favorite:)
I didn't take a picture of Jake when I got there, but I couldn't resist this one of us at Carolina Cup in our matching whale hats!

After chatting inside for a little while, we made our way around the outside of the house, so I could see all the cool projects Jake's been working on. He's quite the handyman/carpenter! We tried out the new hammock, inspected his handmade table and everything else he's been crafting. I was very impressed!

We then had lunch with the two most entertaining members of the family, Jake's Mom & Sister. These ladies could keep me laughing for hours. I'm so glad I was able to spend some time with them. We ate at this little pizza place nearby called Brooklyn South, very tasty!

(This is one of their other locations in Cornelius, NC)

After lunch, Jake and I spent some time just hanging out and enjoying each other's company, then headed off to one of the shopping areas nearby! We stopped by Barnes & Noble, where I picked up the cute new bookmark that I tweeted about!
I have the matching notebook that Jake picked up for me last summer in Washington, DC, so I had to have it!

We love seeing movies, so we couldn't resist this opportunity to stop by the theater and see what was playing! We decided on "What to Expect When You're Expecting". Such a good choice!
Ladies, if you haven't seen it yet, you definitely should! It was cute and funny! I have to admit by the end, when everyone is having their babies, I got a little bit emotional. There I was crying in the middle of the theater! There's just something about babies being born I guess:)

We had such a great day and I can't wait to have another date day!
Happy Tuesday Everyone!
