Lipsync Grind!

Lipsync; Noun, The most competitive Greek event at my college. Ever.

For those of you that may be unfamiliar with the term "Lipsync," let me explain. Lipsync is a dance competition that my school holds twice a year. In the fall, sororities are paired with fraternities and together choreograph a dance routine. We practice for weeks, just to perform it one time for a panel of judges. If you are one of the top five performing teams, you advance to the final school-wide round and compete on Duck Pond Field with tons of other clubs/organizations.

In the spring, lipsync is a whole different story. 

You know that scene in mean girls when the characters turn all animal-like in the cafeteria? Yes, it's kind of like that. 

For Greek Week- Lipsync, sororities and fraternities compete separately, boys vs. boys and girls vs. girls. Since I joined Alpha Phi, I have always participated in spring lipsync. It's the only thing that gets me through the last semester of the year! In preparation, sororities choreograph a dance that lasts about 5 minutes. Each group has a theme, costumes, props, the works. You have one chance to perform it with perfection, in front of a couple hundred people, on a huge stage, under bright lights.

My sorority has recently started practicing. Yes, we have practice now for an event held in the middle of April. 

See in Alpha Phi, we like to win. 

Two years ago, we won first place and I will never forget that feeling. I was still screaming an hour later because I was so happy! Our theme was A-Phi in Wonderland, a spin off of Alice in Wonderland.

Last year, our theme was Mario Party, complete with Princess Peach, Mario, Luigi, Yoshi and Bowser. It was amazing! We won 2nd place.

 As a senior this year, it's the last chance I get at winning, so I want it more than anything! Luckily, we have a ton of girls that are ready and willing to put in the long hours, learn the routines, and get up on stage to represent us. I have to be honest, my whole body is already sore from practice, thanks to Carly & Shelby, our "Boss Ladies," but it'll all be worth it in the end!
